An espresso based coffee simply topped up with hot water, giving it a similar strength to, but different flavour from, regular drip coffee.

It originates from World War 2 when American soldiers in Europe would add hot water to their espresso to approximate the drip coffee they were accustomed too.

It typically consists of a single or double shot of espresso with 30 to 470ml of hot water added.
